THE SPEAKER of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature, Newrene Klaaste, launched the legislature’s Tourism Week on Tuesday when the legislature building was opened to visitors after a long period of closure due to maintenance work and the Covid-19 pandemic.
Klaaste said this also coincided with national Tourism Month and Heritage Month.
“The legislature building should be profiled as a tourism and historical site. It comes with a wealth of history and valuable information on our forebearers. Pieces of the Northern Cape Province have been incorporated within the structures of the legislature building,” said Klaaste.
“The monumental wall of remembrance, which boasts faces of some of the heroes and heroines who have played a historic role mainly in the Province, is significant in that it is a permanent feature of the building that honours the works of Chief Galeshewe and Mittah Seperepere.”
Klaaste announced that a consultative process would unfold to rename all the individual buildings within the legislature precinct.
She encouraged residents to take pride in their province and to visit places within the Northern Cape so that they could “market” the beauty of the Province.
