Kimberley cop shoots girlfriend and her brother, turns gun on himself

The Kimberley SAPS Serious and Violent Crimes unit is investigating a shocking incident where a city police officer apparently shot his girlfriend and her brother before turning the gun on himself.

IN A SHOCKING incident that unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, April 21, a Kimberley police officer apparently shot his girlfriend and her brother before turning the gun on himself.

The incident occurred at approximately 2am and the police official, aged 36, and his girlfriend, 32, were pronounced dead at the scene. The girlfriend’s brother, a 30-year-old man, is currently receiving treatment for his injuries in a local hospital.

The Kimberley SAPS Serious and Violent Crimes unit is now investigating cases of murder, attempted murder and inquest.

SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the exact cause and motive behind the incident are under investigation.

“The investigation continues,” he said, urging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Detective Warrant Officer Joseph Kamolane at 082 302 0407.

The provincial commissioner of the SAPS in the Northern Cape, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, expressed her sincere condolences to the families of the deceased.

In the wake of this tragic event, she encouraged police members to seek help at the various SAPS employee health and wellness units when facing challenges.
