A 28-YEAR-old man was arrested in Kimberley on charges of business burglary after bags containing stolen clothing worth approximately R40,000 were found in his possession.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane said members of the Kimberley Tactical Response Team were led to the bags of clothes while investigating a business burglary.
“The Kimberley Tactical Team, led by Warrant Officer Goodman Sipho Mantyi and Constable Matshisi Phillips, followed up on information regarding a business burglary where clothes worth approximately R40,000 were stolen during the early morning hours of Monday, August 26, from two retail establishments in Phakamile Mabija Road.
“The team operationalised the information and at the identified premises in Chris Hani Park in Barkly Road, a male person was found who granted the police permission to search the premises. The members conducted the search and found a bag full of clothes with price tags still attached and another bag full of clothing stashed inside an unused refrigerator,” said Shemane.
He added that the suspect led the police officers to two other houses where more clothing was discovered.
“The suspect then led the police to a second house, also in Chris Hani Park, where a large green bag containing two Adidas backpacks was also confiscated. The suspect then led the police to a third house in Meriting Street in Phuthanang where a large bag containing clothes with price tags attached was found. However, no suspect was found on the premises.”
Shemane said the team was praised for their fast response.
“The acting Frances Baard district commissioner, Brigadier Nicholas Mtongana, commended the members for their swift response in recovering the stolen items. The community members were also thanked for providing the police with valuable information that led to the arrest of the suspect,” Shemane concluded.
