THE KIMBERLEY Regional Court recently handed down a 14-year prison sentence to Sekhonola Seatile, 36, for armed robbery.

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Merapelo Pilane, the incident occurred on the afternoon of August 12, 2022, when Seatile and an accomplice entered a shop in Long Street, Kimberley. They threatened the shopkeeper at gunpoint, stealing cash, cigarettes and cellphones before locking the victim inside and fleeing.

Sergeant Pilane said that thanks to the dedicated efforts of Detective Sergeant Eunice Ngono and Constable Mpumelelo Maruping from the provincial Organised Crime Investigation unit, the perpetrators were quickly traced and apprehended in the Free State province. Bail was successfully opposed, leading to Seatile’s eventual conviction and a 14-year sentence. The court also declared him unfit to possess a firearm.

The SAPS management in the Northern Cape welcomed the sentence handed down and praised the detectives for their relentless pursuit of justice.
