A 23-year-old suspect who allegedly kidnapped and raped an 18-year-old woman was arrested in Kimberley on Tuesday after he tried to evade the police.

A 23-YEAR-old suspect who allegedly kidnapped and raped an 18-year-old woman was arrested in Kimberley on Tuesday after he tried to evade the police.

Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the incident took place between May 18-22.

“The provincial tracking team traced and apprehended the suspect. He was arrested after the tracking team received information that led them to the veld between Colville and Santa Centre, where the suspect was hiding,” said Tawana.

He said that the suspect was expected to appear in the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court on May 31.

Tawana added that the provincial tracking team also arrested a 39-year-old suspect, who was on the run from the police, in Postmasburg.

“The suspect was wanted in connection with four different cases of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) and kidnapping.

“The suspect allegedly assaulted and kidnapped four women aged between the ages of 26 and 35 years old on separate occasions in Postmasburg.”

Tawana said the suspect was expected to appear in the Postmasburg Magistrate’s Court on May 31.
