Kathu man gets 15 years in jail for rape

The accused was found guilty of rape and sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment by the Kathu Magistrate’s Court.

A NORTHERN Cape man who raped a woman after offering her a lift from a nightclub in Kathu will spend the next 15 years behind bars.

Police spokesperson Captain Sergio Kock said the incident took place on August 24, 2019, at about 1.20am.

Kock said that the accused was known to the woman.

“The accused, Nhlanlha Success Msane, drove with the woman from the nightclub to his house, where they chatted. Msane said he was tired and asked the woman to stay over. He then forcefully started to undress her and then raped her during the night.”

Kock said that the woman opened a criminal charge the following day. “The accused was arrested on the same day. He was released on R1,000 bail seven days later.”

He added that Msane was found guilty on a charge of rape and sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment on Monday, May 31 by the Kathu Magistrate’s Court.

The provincial head of the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit in the Northern Cape, Brigadier Nicky Mills, applauded Detective Sergeant Maletsatsi Smous from the Kathu FCS for the thorough investigation of the incident.
