THE ROODEPAN SAPS recently held a Youth Month event at Roodepan Primary School to promote safety awareness.

SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said a team addressed 956 pupils on a variety of topics including bullying, cyberbullying, sexual offences, social ills and school general discipline on June 6.

“They were reminded of basic safety hints they should adhere to at school and during the upcoming school holidays and beyond.”

He added that the programme was led by the deputy junior provincial commissioner for corporate services, Simone Van Rooyen, accompanied by the Roodepan SAPS Social Crime Prevention, safety volunteers, and the departments of Education and Social Development.

Kock stated that the deputy junior provincial commissioner for corporate services in the Northern Cape, Simone Van Rooyen, the junior visible policing commander for Roodepan SAPS, Rougracia Fisher, and the junior detective commander for Roodepan SAPS, Perpetua Morgan, who are all Grade 11 learners at Pescodia High School in Roodepan, were introduced to the pupils.

“The SAPS provincial band entertained the pupils while safety hint flyers and other marketing materials were distributed.

“The Junior Provincial Commissioner for Corporate Services, Simone Van Rooyen, also reminded the scholars to break the silence on crime and call the police on 08600 10111,” Kock said.

He encouraged those in need to contact Childline for help on 0800 0555 55 or the Department of Social Development Command Centre on 0800 428 428.
