JTG District records 115 new infections

A TOTAL of 6 621 people in the Northern Cape have tested positive for Covid-19 as of Sunday night.

This is according to the Minister of Heath, Dr Zweli Mkhize, who made the announcement on August 9.

Mkhize said that the total number of Covid-19-related deaths in the Province has remained at 66, while recoveries stand at 3 306.

He said that Frances Baard District has the highest number of Covid-19 cases.

“The Frances Baard District has reported a total of 2 578 positive cases thus far, while Pixley ka Seme District has 1 894 positive cases, John Taolo Gatesewe District recorded a total 1 398 positive cases, ZF Mgcawu District has 591 cases and Namakwa District recorded 156 positive cases thus far,” he said.

According to the figures, the recovery rate in John Taolo Gaetsewe is slower compared to the other districts.

“Out of the 1 398 positive cases a total of 1 192 cases are still active. There are only 193 people in the district who have recovered from the virus and 12 who have died due to a Covid-19-related illness. One person will be transferred (re-allocated) after being incorrectly allocated to that district,” said Mkhize.

He said that JTG has recorded the highest number of new infections.

“The JTG District recorded 115 new cases, ZF Mgcawu 46 new cases, Frances Baard 44 new cases, Pixley ka Seme 38 and Namakwa eight new positive cases,” said Mkhize.

He urged all residents in the Province to continue to adhere to the stipulated Covid-19 regulations set out by government.
