THE STANDING Committee on Appropriations (SCOA) has expressed its satisfaction with the progress of the Employment Creation Facilitation Fund (Jobs Fund), which saw the creation of 449 permanent jobs in the Northern Cape.

The committee, which met with the National Treasury earlier recently to be briefed on progress and expenditure of the fund, pointed out, however, that there was room for improvement.

Noting the creation of 449 permanent jobs in the Northern Cape, it emphasised that this province lags behind the others and therefore should be one of the main areas for improvement. National Treasury was advised to look at increasing performance in the Province.

The Jobs Fund was launched in June 2011 with a budget of R9 billion to support initiatives that pilot innovative approaches to employment creation. The programme will come to an end in the next few years, according to National Treasury. – Staff Reporter
