A 38-year-old man, Isaac Fortuin was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment in the Jan Kempdorp Regional Court for the rape of a 24-year-old woman.

A 38-YEAR-OLD man, Isaac Fortuin was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment in the Jan Kempdorp Regional Court for the rape of a 24-year-old woman.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sergio Kock said the incident occurred on May 16, 2019 after Fortuin assaulted and forced the woman to go home with him.

“On this day, the victim was assaulted at a local tavern by the accused who forced her to go to his house. Fortuin also threatened the victim with a knife and raped her several times. The accused was sentenced on June 24, 2021,” said Kock.

Kock said the investigating officer was praised for his sterling investigation into the matter.

“The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major-General Henriette de Waal lauded Detective Sergeant Sidwell Dastile for a job well done The State Prosecutor, Philemon Mathivha was also commended for the role he played in securing the sentence. The Head Head of Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS), Brigadier Nicky Mills has also welcomed the sentence that was handed down to Fortuin,” said Kock.
