Intruder sentenced to six years imprisonment

Accused, Basa Mkhontwana, who was found guilty of housebreaking with the intent to steal and common assault was sentenced to six years imprisonment in the Colesberg Regional Court.

AN ACCUSED Basa Mkhontwana, who was found guilty of housebreaking with the intent to steal and common assault was sentenced to six years imprisonment in the Colesberg Regional Court on August 18.

Lieutenant Colonel Sergio Kock said the incident took place on June 2 2019 when the accused broke into the house of a 53-year-old woman.

“Mkhontwana tried to pin her down on the bed but she managed to escape and informed the police.”

The acting deputy provincial commissioner for crime detection, Brigadier Nicky Mills commended Detective Constable AR Blouw from the Kuyasa detective unit for his sterling investigation.

“The SAPS will continue to work hard to ensure our vulnerable groups such as women and children are protected during this women’s month and beyond,“ Kock added.
