Illicit liquor worth R30,000 confiscated

LIQUOR valued at over R30,000 was confiscated during a multi-disciplinary disciplinary operation dubbed “Tactical Operation on Illicit Liquor ” in Kimberley on Thursday.

Captain Olebogeng Tawana said Security Intelligence, Commercial Financial and Cyber Crime, Kimberley Public Order Police, Provincial FLASH and Kimberley SAPS Flash, Northern Cape Provincial Corporate Communication, Northern Cape Liquor Board and Liqour Brand Experts (Pernod Ricard, Distill and Diageo) conducted compliance inspections at eight liquor outlets.

“The focus of the inspection was to ensure that the sale of illicit liquor is removed from the liquor outlets shelves. The operation confiscated illicit liquor, found to be illegally in the country. A dealer was found to have tampered with the trademark on the brands.”

He added that the team inspected owners of the liquor outlets who were involved with tax evasion and the illegal dealing in liquor.

“The illicit liquor trade has a negative impact on the economy of the country. The operation will continue to address illicit liquor.”
