POLICE in Kakamas yesterday made what they called “a huge breakthrough in the battle against drugs” when they confiscated more than 100 grams of tik and 500 mandrax tablets.

The police said yesterday that members of the Kakamas SAPS, under the command of Colonel Boetie De Bruin, responded to information about a drug consignment that was on a bus en route to Kakamas.

“During the search of the bus the police members found 101 grams of Tik and 500 mandrax tablets. The mandrax tablets were perfectly concealed in pantihose on the head of one of the two female suspects,” police spokesperson, Captain Francois Steenkamp, said.

He added that the estimated street value of the drugs is R50 000.

“Two females, aged 33 and 46 years respectively, were arrested for the possession of drugs and will appear in the Kakamas Magistrate’s Court,” Steenkamp said.
