THE FRANCES Baard District Municipality (FBDM) has dismissed as slander the social media posts discouraging members of the public from attending the HIV/Aids benefit concert featuring Joyous Celebration at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre in Kimberley this weekend.

The FBDM’s communications manager, Gerline Roman, confirmed that the event will proceed tomorrow. This follows the municipality’s decision to decline a request by Africa Media Connection to review the appointment of Zikmo Productions (Pty) Ltd as the successful bidder to host the concert.

“The request for the appeal did not provide any grounds for review. It was in the same letter that Africa Media Connection indicated its intention to approach the court on this matter.”

Roman added that the proceeds of the concert would be donated to an HIV/Aids non-governmental organisation in the Frances Baard District.

“The concert is a meaningful initiative to raise awareness about HIV/Aids, honour those affected by the virus and unite the community in the fight against the epidemic. Our hope is for this event to unite the people of the district and province in the fight against HIV/Aids.”

She called on the community to “go out in their numbers” and support the event.

“Tickets are available both on Computicket and at the door. The success of this event depends on the support of the local community.”

The director of African Media Connection, Kgomotso Modiragale, said he had agreed to temporarily hold off legal action.

He had intended to file an urgent interdict in the Northern Cape High Court this week to prevent the event from proceeding.

“This decision wasn’t taken lightly. I want to emphasise that our actions are purely driven by a commitment to fair business practices, not personal agendas. We believe this step is necessary to protect our interests and uphold ethical standards.”

Modiragale explained that following a meeting with the Frances Baard District mayor, they decided to allow the event to continue in the interests of the beneficiaries.

He added that the matter would be taken on review after the concert.

Organiser and managing director of Zikmo Promotions, Zikie Molusi, confirmed that the internationally renowned gospel group Joyous Celebration would headline the event.

“Joyous Celebration has sold out concerts every time they visit Kimberley,” Molusi noted. “The audience will also enjoy performances by local emerging artists, who will have the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of a home crowd.”

He added that the line-up would include Kganya Ya Morena, Michelle Nxumalo, and Theonique Danster, as well as DJs Booker T and Ladysta_DJ.

“All the necessary logistics are in place. Members of the public are requested to get their tickets early to avoid any disappointment. Food will be sold at the venue,” Molusi added.
