THE CAMPBELL police arrested a 49-year-old hitch-hiker who was found in possession of drugs on Monday.

The police stopped a vehicle on the N8 national road from Kimberley to Campbell on June 10.

SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said on Tuesday that members set up a monitoring post awaiting the identified vehicle and spotted it with four occupants including the driver from whom permission was sought to be searched.

“The police found 10 zip bags of dagga with an estimated street value of R7,500 and also found and confiscated a suspected firearm,” said Sam.

“The suspect was arrested and charged for illegal possession of drugs and will appear in the Campbell Magistrate’s Court soon.”
