SIX men were arrested following the recovery of a hijacked truck which was transporting goods worth approximately R2 million.

Northern Cape police spokesperson, Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien, said the truck was recovered at a house in Galeshewe in Kimberley.

“The rapid and swift response of a multi-disciplinary police team earlier this week led to the recovery of a hijacked truck. The Station Commander in Prieska received information that a truck transporting goods was hijacked en-route to Prieska.

“He immediately contacted the Provincial Head of Organised Crime Investigation who traced the truck. It was found at a house in Galeshewe and when members approached the premises, they found six men busy off loading the goods.

“The six males were arrested, of whom one is a repeat offender. The goods valued at approximately R2 million were confiscated and the hijacked truck valued at R900,000 was seized,” said Gamieldien.

She said the suspects are expected to appear in court soon.

“The suspects were charged with hijacking and possession of suspected stolen goods and are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, was elated by the rapid reaction of the team and commended the members for their relentless efforts in ensuring a safe and secure environment,” Gamieldien said.
