A TASK team has been established by the Northern Cape MEC of Health, Mae Manopole, which will conduct investigations into claims of breach of patient confidentiality.
The spokesperson for the department, Lebogang Mahaja, said the team will comprise of clinical and legal experts.
“The establishment of the team follows after the department was being inundated with calls and complaints from community members about the breach of patient confidentiality at some of the health care facilities in the Province. The task team will conduct an extensive investigation to test these allegations. The task team is expected to conclude its investigation in four months’ time and hand over a consolidated report with clear recommendations to the executing authority for further action,” said Majaha.
“The team is expected to gather and analyse information and evidence obtained as well as compile an investigation report. This is also in preparation of the promulgation of the Protection of Personal Information Act which speaks to the protection of the personal information of members of the public, private bodies and their privacy.”
