THE HAWKS’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team has appealed to the public for assistance in locating stolen gold and silver bars, taken during a brazen robbery at a farm in Vosburg in the Northern Cape in November 2022.
According to Hawks provincial spokesperson Warrant Officer Nomthandazo Mnisi, the incident occurred when four armed suspects, wearing balaclavas, accosted a couple at their leased farmhouse.
The suspects, armed with shotguns and other firearms, made off with gold and silver bars valued at R40 million, as well as a .22 rifle.
The case, initially reported to local police, has since been transferred to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (known as the Hawks). Authorities believe the stolen bars may have been sold to unsuspecting buyers.
Anyone with information regarding the buying or selling of these gold and silver bars, including transactions on the black market, is urged to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Rooiland, at 082 770 5219, the Crime Stop number 08600 10111, their nearest police station, or share information via the MySAPS app.
