Two suspects aged 18 and 24 were arrested and are expected to appear in the Rietfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday
TWO suspects were arrested after 78-year-old Maria Padmaker from Philandersbron was robbed of her pension money.
A community member Meris Kocks said Padmaker travelled to Rietfontein on November 26 with her sister to withdraw the money at the post office.
“The suspects followed them, overpowered Padmaker and grabbed her money.
“A community member saw the two men fleeing the scene and handed the names of the suspects over to the police. The court must deal harshly with the suspects as they attacked an elderly, defenceless woman during the 16 Days of Activism of no violence against women and children. Due to the swift action of the police, the suspects were arrested and a large portion of her pension money was recovered.”
Captain Olebogeng Tawana said two suspects aged 18 and 24 were arrested and are expected to appear in the Rietfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday, December 4 ,on a count of robbery.
“It is alleged that the pair robbed an old lady of her pension money last week Thursday in Rietfontein.”
