THE REMOTE rural areas of the Northern Cape often face significant challenges in accessing essential services and information due to inadequate infrastructure and the vastness of the region. In response, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in these areas is making concerted efforts to bridge this gap and bring services to the people.

Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela said that members of the Rietfontein and Witdraai SAPS have launched a gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) campaign. As part of this initiative, they visited clinics and other community centres, engaging with women and providing crucial information aimed at combating GBVF.

This campaign is a collaborative effort involving the Department of Health, the Department of Social Development, various NGOs, the Community Policing Forum (CPF), and its structures. Together, they are working to disseminate important information and offer services specific to each department.

Sergeant Masegela said the community members expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the valuable information and services provided by the officials from the different departments.
