“I first thought it was a scam. I hung up the call.”

A 30-YEAR-old Galeshewe woman scooped R100,000 when she was announced as Vodacom’s VodaBucks Shake-it competition winner on Thursday.

The woman said that the good news only sank in when she was presented with the cheque at the Kimberley Big Hole.

Overwhelmed, she said she received a call from Vodacom earlier in October while she was at work.

She said she almost lost out on the opportunity after hanging up the call when a Vodacom consultant told her that she was one of the winners.

She said the news sounded “unreal” to her because she has never won anything in her life before.

The woman added she had always been uncomfortable with giving out her personal details.

“I thought it was a scam. I hung up the call when the female caller told me I was one of the winners and asked for my personal details.

“After the call I told my colleagues about it and we made a joke about everything.

“When I arrived home from work that day, the call bothered me and I went to bed with a heavy heart.

“The next day I decided to clear my mind and call the number back. I could not get through because it was a call centre number.

“I called a friend of mine who works at Vodacom and told her about it, and she gave me an alternative number to call.

“It was a bit of a battle, but I ended up talking to the same person who called me to give me the good news.

“She confirmed everything.”

According to the winner, she started shaking when the competition started.

“I only shook when I remembered.”

She has been using Vodacom for more than 10 years.

She said she does not have any plans for her winnings yet.
