TWO MEN convicted of robbing a spaza shop owner at knifepoint in Galeshewe have been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The accused, Senzo Bhekizitha Kokobe and Katlego Zar Tshukudu, both 22 years old, were recently sentenced in the Galeshewe Regional Court.
SAPS provincial spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said the incident occurred on January 7.
“The court heard that the two accused walked into the spaza shop, threatened the owner with a panga and a knife, then stole cigarettes and cash before fleeing the scene,” said Sam.
He added that each accused was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on a charge of business robbery.
“Both accused were declared unfit to possess firearms.”
The Frances Baard district commissioner, Major-General Charlotte Makgari, applauded the investigating officer, Detective Warrant Officer Leslie Everyday, for the thorough investigation that secured the conviction.
She believed the sentence would send a stern message to criminal elements that continued to rob communities of their belongings.
