A 38-YEAR-old mother is expected to appear before the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of child neglect after her four-year-old son sustained burn wounds to his buttocks and legs.

The child was reportedly burnt with boiling water that was heated over a fire in Phutanang on the weekend.

The child is currently still in hospital receiving medical treatment.

It is believed that the mother was not at home at the time of the incident and it is alleged that she refused to take her child to hospital.

The child apparently had to spend the night inside the shanty and only received medical attention the following day.

Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the 38-year old woman was arrested and was expected to appear before the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of child neglect.

“It is alleged that her four-year-old child was burnt after a pot with hot boiling water fell on his body. The boy is currently hospitalised. The investigation continues,” said Tawana.
