The suspect had gone on the run after the alleged incident and was “living on the streets” in the Kimberley CBD
A 26-YEAR-old Galeshewe man, who had “disguised” himself as a street vagrant, was arrested on Wednesday on a charge of rape.
Police spokesperson Captain Sergio Kock said the man was arrested after information was received about a rape suspect who was apparently on the run following an incident last weekend.
“The provincial SAPS Tracking Team received information about a fleeing suspect.
“The suspect fled from his house in Galeshewe and was living under the disguise of a street vagrant in the Kimberley CBD.
“The outstanding investigative skills of the tracking team led to the swift apprehension and arrest of the suspect at a petrol station.
“The suspect is expected to appear in the Galeshewe Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Kock.
Kock said the team was applauded for their investigation into the matter.
“The acting provincial commissioner for Crime Detection, Brigadier Nicky Mills, commended the team for the arrest and thanked the community for their assistance in the investigation,” he said.
