The court was closed for disinfection after a police officer based at the Kagisho Police Station tested positive.

THE GALESHEWE Magistrate’s Court was closed for disinfection purposes on Wednesday after a police officer based at the Kagisho Police Station tested positive for Covid-19.

Department of Justice spokesperson Chrispin Phiri said the building would only be closed on Wednesday and would reopen on Thursday.

It is believed that all criminal cases that were due to be heard at the court on Wednesday were postponed to a follow-up date, while people with civil matters involving domestic violence, protection orders, children’s court and maintenance matters will be contacted by relevant officials from the sections.

Screening is expected to take place at the court building on Thursday.

The Kagisho Police Station in Galeshewe was disinfected earlier this week after the police officer tested positive.

“Kagisho Police Station has been decontaminated and members who have come into contact with the infected member are in isolation. These members will be undergoing testing and screening. The station is expected to reopen on Wednesday, May 27, 2020,” national police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo said on Tuesday.
