THE TWO farmers and police official who were shot and killed during a shootout on a farm in Koffiefontein will be laid to rest this weekend.

Paul Nel, 60, from the farm Dassieskop, in Koffiefontein, was shot and killed while sitting on his porch by his neighbour, Coenraad Badenhorst, 36, on Thursday evening following an apparent ongoing family feud.

When police arrived on the scene, where they discovered Nel’s body, Badenhorst, who was apparently hiding in the bushes, opened fire on officials.

During the shooting, in which Badenhorst used a hunting rifle, Constable Vuyani March, 27, was hit in the head and died on the scene whilst Sergeant George Calvert, 41, was shot in the face.

He was rushed to Kimberley Mediclinic where he was yesterday still being treated in the ICU.

Police officers responded and Badenhorst was shot. He died on the way to hospital.

Nel, Badenhorst and March will be laid to rest in Koffiefontein this weekend.

A memorial service will be held for Nel on Friday, January 18, at 11am, at the NG Kerk Koffiefontein, while Badenhorst’s funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 19, at 10am, also at the NG Kerk Koffiefontein.

March will receive an official police funeral on Saturday, January 19, from 7am, at the MPCC Community Hall in Koffiefontein. A memorial service in his honour will also take place on Thursday, January 17, at the MPCC Community Hall in Koffiefontein.
