THE SPRINGBOK Magistrate’s Court convicted and sentenced 21-year-old Michele Ruan van Wyk to three years’ direct imprisonment for fraud on Monday.

The case goes back to 2021 when Van Wyk attempted to sell fake Nama Khoi Municipality tender documents, for a tender valued at R15 million, to a certain businessman..

The businessman reported the matter to the Springbok-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit.

A sting operation was put in place and Van Wyk demanded R100,000 for the tender to be secured.

An arrangement was reached with Van Wyk to receive an amount of R10,000 as a “down payment”.

Van Wyk was later arrested with the fake tender documents and cash.

Van Wyk made numerous court appearances and pleaded guilty in terms of Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Act, resulting in a three-year direct imprisonment sentence.

He was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.
