The Minister of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhize, said that there were a total of 5 638 people in the Northern Cape who had tested positive for Covid-19 as of August 5.
Thirty-six people in the Province have lost their lives after contracting the disease.
There were 78 new cases recorded in the Sol Plaatje municipal area alone, bringing the total number of new positive cases in the Frances Baard District to 87.
Nine people have died of the disease in the Frances Baard District so far, while 1 400 people are deemed to have recovered. The total number of active cases stands at 800.
In the John Taolo Gaetsewe District the number of positive cases has risen to 1 090, where 67 new positive cases were recorded and four people have died.
In the Pixley ka Seme District there are 1 720 positive cases with 70 new cases and nine deaths.
A total of 962 people have recovered and the number of active cases in this district is 748.
In the ZF Mgcawu District, 32 new cases were reported, bringing the total number of infections to 468, with one death and 329 recoveries.
With one new positive case, the Namakwa District has the lowest number of infections – 139 cases. There have been three deaths and 66 recoveries.
The Northern Cape provincial government said two people who were incorrectly allocated to the Northern Cape would be reallocated to other provinces shortly.
“The number of recoveries (in the Province) currently stands at 2 859 which translates to a recovery rate of 50 percent.”
