The Galeshewe police have opened an inquest docket after a four-year-old girl died in a shack fire at the Madiba Square Shanties on Saturday.

THE GALESHEWE police have opened an inquest docket after a four-year-old girl died in a shack fire at the Madiba Square shanties on Saturday.

The girl was declared dead on the scene by the Kimberley emergency services.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said that preliminary investigations indicate that the child was alone inside a locked shanty at the time of the fire.

“The child was staying with her mother, who was not at home at the time. The cause of the fire is not yet established. The investigation continues,” said Sam.

The police have requested any member of the public who may be able to assist with the case to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Dirk Thys, on 082 469 0130 or via the MySAPS app.
