FOUR suspects are expected to appear in the Petrusville Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of contravening the Criminal Matters Amendment Act after they were caught red-handed stealing railway tracks in Petrusville.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said on Wednesday that the suspects were arrested on Tuesday while they were busy loading railway tracks into a trailer near Kraankuil train station in Petrusville.

“Two tractors and a trailer, as well as tools, which were instrumental in the commission of crime were confiscated,” said Tawana.

“The police received a report about suspicious activities that were taking place at Kraankuil train station and upon arrival, the suspects failed to give a reasonable explanation for being in possession of pieces of railway tracks.”

Tawana said that members of the Petrusville SAPS Visible Policing unit and Transnet security had collaborated to execute the arrest of the suspects.

“The investigation continues,” Tawana added.
