THE POLICE arrested four suspects and seized drugs, cash and stolen law enforcement uniforms during an operation in the Postmasburg area on the weekend.

Operation Vala Umgodi, a task force dedicated to combating illegal mining and related crimes, conducted a disruptive operation in the early hours of Saturday across several areas in Postmasburg.

According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane, the operation spanned Boitshoko, Postdene, Maranteng, Newtown, Greenfield and Carnation, following credible information about suspected drug dealing in these areas.

The operation led to the arrest of three male suspects, aged between 24 and 36, on charges of drug possession. Additionally, a 40-year-old suspect was apprehended for being in possession of stolen property and drugs.

The team seized drugs and cash, believed to be proceeds from criminal activities. Uniforms, suspected to belong to law enforcement, were also recovered and confiscated during the operation.

The suspects are due to make their court appearance soon. Meanwhile, Operation Vala Umgodi has pledged to continue its disruptive actions to address illicit mining and related crimes throughout the Northern Cape.
