FOUR people died in an accident involving a truck, a Ford Kuga and a Volkswagen Golf on the R31 between Kimberley and Kuruman.

Police spokesperson Captain Bashoabile Kale said the incident took place on Saturday at about 10am near the Delportshoop junction.

“The police in Delportshoop were called out to a horrific accident where a Ford Kuga and a truck collided head-on, while the truck continued to crash into an oncoming Volkswagen Golf 6. All four occupants of the Ford Kuga died on impact while both the driver of the truck and the Golf 6 were taken by ambulance to the Professor ZK Matthews Hospital in Barkly West for medical attention,” said Kale.

He added that three of the deceased were identified as Barkly West residents. “The driver of the Kuga is identified as an employee of Sedibeng Water at Vaal Gamagara Plant near Delportshoop.”

Kale said that the cause of the accident is not known at this stage.

“A case of culpable homicide has been opened and investigations continue.”
