FOUR people lost their lives in a head-on collision between two light motor vehicles on the R31 road between Kimberley and Barkly West on February 1.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said the deceased were between the ages of 36 and 56.

“The police are investigating the circumstances that led to this tragic accident, including the possibility of a tyre burst on one of the vehicles,” said Sam.

“Two occupants, including a 12-year-old boy, were transported to Robert Mangaliso Sobukwe Hospital [in Kimberley] for medical attention after sustaining serious injuries.

“The police are appealing to road users to adhere to road safety rules and to do proper inspections on their vehicles before trips, as well as to stay alert on the roads,” he added.
