The former chairperson of Lesedi soup kitchen said he intends to open defamation of character charges against his detractors.

The former chairperson of Lesedi soup kitchen in Florianville has disputed that he took any property belonging to the soup kitchen, following his resignation and has indicated that he intends opening defamation of character charges against his detractors.

It was reported that he was in possession of the bank cards whereby they were unable to pay staff salaries or purchase ingredients for the soup kitchen.

The former chairperson stated that he had requested the community development officer to collect the bank card from his house.

“I am still waiting for them to fetch the bank card as I cannot hand it over to anyone. The only items I took with me are my stapler, fluorescent highlighters and my kettle that I brought as the one at the soup kitchen was not working. I am not in possession of any property that does not belong to me and there are no grounds to charge me. I will sue whoever has accused me for defamation of character because I am an upright and law abiding citizen. I worked for the government for 34 years and I never took a cent.”

He added that he had left the centre where all the financials were compliant and in a sound state.

“The books were audited and are up to date. The members of the previous board as well as the cook who was employed there for 21 years have all left.”
