KIMBERLEY A former city resident will be representing the Northern Cape as part of the top 16 contestants vying for the crown of Miss Bachelorette 2020 – a pageant aimed at empowering women.

Janine Nieklaasen, 32, who was born and bred in Kimberley, was selected as one of the top 16 finalists of the Miss Bachelorette 2020 pageant.

Miss Bachelorette South Africa is a women empowerment project that is presented in a pageant approach. Its main aim is to give unmarried, mature women recognition and honour through philanthropy, fashion and beauty. It’s the only pageant in South Africa that focuses on women between the ages of 25 and 50, who are unmarried and independent (with or without children).

According to Nieklaasen, the vision of the competition is to see growth in women’s financial and emotional independence and for women to form business and social relationships so that they can empower each other.

She explained that the competition aimed to fill the gap between the Miss South Africa and Mrs South Africa pageants.

Nieklaasen, who matriculated from Diamantveld High School in 2005, is a mother of three who is currently studying for a Bachelor of Education degree through Unisa.

She will be representing Kimberley and the Northern Cape at the competition and requested that residents vote for her by SMSing MBSA Janine to 33282.
