A GROUP of former Zingisa Primary School pupils have encouraged other former pupils to give back to their schools.

They donated 55 pairs of school shoes to Zingisa and 48 pairs of school socks to Masiza Primary School in Kimberley on Thursday.

Spokesperson for the group, Feziwe Motshabi, said they decided to give back to the school which is where the foundations of their careers were laid.

“We are all former learners from the school. We saw that there were several children in the school who did not have shoes. I was one of those children who never had a pair of school shoes throughout my school career. I did not want other children to suffer the same way,” said Motshabi.

“Luckily there were some of my fellow former schoolmates who also wanted to make a difference to the school. One of our members donated R5 000 and this enabled us to purchase the bulk of the shoes and socks.

“We worked with the teachers to help us identify the children who were in dire need of school shoes. The teachers later informed us that the children were no longer wearing the white socks but the official school socks. We could not dispose of the socks that we bought so we decided to donate them to children at Masiza,” she added.

Motshabi said that they are hoping to make the project an annual event and she hoped that more people would follow their example.
