THE HAWKS’ Priority Crime Specialised Investigation team and the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) in the Northern Cape were granted a final forfeiture order against the former chief financial officer (CFO) of the Department of Roads and Public Works, Bradley Slingers, 58.
Slingers was stopped at a roadblock near Shell Ultra City on the N12, where police discovered a large sum of cash in his vehicle.
Hawks provincial spokesperson Warrant Officer Nomthandazo Mnisi stated that the forfeiture order was granted in the Northern Cape High Court on November 7, following Slingers’ arrest on November 16, 2023.
She added that when searched, Slingers was found with R200,000 in his possession, while three additional bags containing an undisclosed amount of cash were also found by the police.
“A total amount of R679,200 was recovered from his vehicle. Upon questioning, the accused was unable to provide proof or a reasonable explanation for the money that was found in his possession,” Mnisi said.
“The police seized the money and an inquiry docket was opened for investigation.”
Mnisi noted that further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
