“With the anticipated local government summit, the ANC needs to deal with the problems of accountability and improve service delivery.”

ANC provincial chairperson Dr Zamani Saul.

ANC PROVINCIAL chairperson, Zamani Saul, highlighted the need to address the high unemployment rate in the Province at the launch of the ANC Provincial Executive Committee lekgotla that started yesterday.

He labelled the Northern Cape as being “the capital of unemployment in the country” .

Saul said the ANC needed to establish a “war room” on unemployment and come up with radical strategies to deal with the triple challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality.

He warned comrades not to defy the organisation or veer from the mandate of the party.

“With the anticipated local government summit, the ANC needs to deal with the problems of accountability and improve service delivery.”

Saul added that mayors would be held accountable for improving service delivery, as only one out of a total of 31 municipalities in the Province, had received a clean audit.

Meanwhile the ANC Youth League in the Province is backing Saul as their preferred Premier candidate, ahead of their upcoming Provincial congress and national list conference.

A preferred list has been released and includes Saul at number one and Premier Sylvia Lucas at number two on the Province to Province list.

Lucas is also ranked at number one on the national to national list.

The MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Mac Jack, is listed at number nine while the former Sol Plaatje executive mayor, Mangaliso Matika, sits at number 20 on the Province to Province list.

Former ANC Frances Baard spokesperson, Ali Diteme, is number one on the Province to national list.
