Five arrested in Kathu after raid on suspected drug house

DRUGS were seized from a suspected drug house in Harmony Street, Siyathemba during a raid by members of the Kathu Crime Prevention group on Monday.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Mashay Gamieldien said five suspects were arrested on charges of dealing in drugs and dealing in liquor without a licence.

“The station commander of Siyathemba, Captain Maryna Boyder, the John Taolo Gaetsewe district detective co-ordinator, Lieutenant-Colonel Sandra Boshof, the acting provincial head corporate communication, Colonel Mashay Gamieldien, and Kathu Crime Prevention group 2, Sergeant Ben Eiman and Constable Blythe Jantjes, raided a drug house in Harmony Street in Siyathemba after receiving information about a house where drugs are allegedly sold.

“The team searched the house at approximately 4.45pm, where they found three males and two females inside the house. Dagga with an estimated street value of R200,000, crystal meth valued at R2,000, liquor with an approximate value of R5,000 and cash, presumed to be the proceeds of the sale of drugs, amounting to R14,941.60 was seized.”

Gamieldien added that three men, aged, 23, 40 and 42 years old, and two women, aged 30 and 18 years old, would appear in the Kathu Magistrate’s Court soon.
