THE NORTHERN Cape police have arrested five men, aged between 23 and 39, in connection with two unrelated incidents, including a house robbery and rape in Galeshewe, as well as an armed robbery in Kimberley North.

According to provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Merapelo Pilane, the arrests were made by the Operation Vala Umgodi combat team, led by Captain Neo Maeneche, in the Frances Baard District on Saturday. The team acted on intelligence about the suspects’ alleged involvement in a house robbery and rape at the Madibapark informal settlement in Galeshewe.

The suspects were reported to be armed with a pistol and knives. Members of the provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Investigation unit, the Kimberley Public Order Police unit, and the Galeshewe SAPS swiftly mobilised to apprehend the individuals.

Upon arrest, the five men were positively identified and linked to the robbery and rape incident. Authorities also discovered a replica 9mm pistol in their possession. Further investigations connected the group to an armed robbery that took place in Kimberley North on July 14, 2024.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court in the coming days.
