A group of farmers will hand over a memorandum at the Hartswater Magistrates Court where the suspects are appearing for the kidnapping and murder of the Brand family.

A LARGE group of farmers in the Northern Cape have travelled in convoy in bakkies and tractors to attend the court appearance of the five suspects who were arrested for the abduction and murder of the Brand family.

The bodies of the deceased were found in the veld near Takaneng village near Taung on Tuesday.

According to Afriforum hundreds of farmers and community members have arrived in support of family who were brutally murdered and to show solidarity against violent farm attacks.

Chairperson of the Vaalharts district agricultural union Stefan Smith said a memorandum would be handled over at the Hartswater Magistrates Court on Thursday to oppose bail.

The suspects aged 18, 19, 20, 36 and 43 years are expected to appear in the Hartswater Magistrates Court on Thursday following the kidnapping of Danie Brand, 83, his wife Breggie, 79 and their daughter Elzabie, 50, from their farm in Magogong on July 26.

The suspects are facing three charges of murder, kidnapping and the theft of motor vehicles.

Smith added that all Covid-19 regulations were being observed where all supporters would remain in their cars.

“We obtained the necessary permission from local authorities to travel in convoy to the court building and show our support.”
