The four accused, who include the stepfather of the child, were arrested at a farm near Kimberley after a case was opened with the police.
FOUR family members will reappear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court next week on charges of allegedly sexually assaulting a child.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesperson, Mojalefa Senokoatsane, said the child was seven years old at the time the offence was committed in June 2020.
“The four accused, who include the stepfather of the child, were arrested at a farm near Kimberley after a case was opened with the police. Three of the accused, who are family members, were arrested immediately after the case was opened. The fourth accused was arrested after an intense year-long search that was undertaken by the South African Police Service Tracing Team.”
He indicated that the accused have remained in custody as the state prosecutor had successfully opposed their bail applications.
“The case was postponed until March 9 to arrange a new trial date in the in the Kimberley Sexual Offences court.”
