THE MEC for Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison Nomandla Bloem inducted 72 expanded public work programme safety participants in Upington on Friday.

The acting provincial commissioner Major General Koliswa Otola believed the safety officers who would be stationed at different police stations throughout the province, would assist the police in fighting gender based violence and femicide in the province.

Sergeant Omphile Masegela said the safety officers would work directly with social crime prevention coordinators to conduct programmes and projects, raising awareness about social ills and crimes that influence gender based violence and femicide.
