A 40-YEAR-old woman was allegedly prevented from plotting to kill her estranged husband when she was arrested at the Indian Centre in Kimberley on Sunday.

Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said that a joint operation executed by members of the Provincial Organised Crime and Kimberley Crime Intelligence units gathered information regarding an alleged conspiracy to murder, where the suspect had allegedly hired hitmen to kill her husband.

“Following a week of intelligence gathering and surveillance, the team executed the arrest with the assistance of agents who posed as hitmen,” said Tawana.

“It is alleged that the woman promised to pay the hitmen a substantial amount of money to kidnap and kill her husband.

“The woman was intercepted and arrested while negotiating with the hitmen.”

Tawana said the suspect was expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder.
