WELL-KNOWN local businessman Adre Els apparently shot himself on his farm close to Schmidtsdrift on Wednesday. He died on the scene.
Adre was the son of Piet Els, who was attacked on his farm just outside Kimberley a few years ago. Piet Els died in hospital several days later.
It is believed that Adre’s body was found on his farm after he apparently collected a firearm from the house.
Two days before, Adre had posted a message on his Facebook page: “Die wereld is boos. Dit is fine. Maak met my wat julle wil op aarde. Julle kole wag.”
Translated: “The world is evil. That is fine. You can do with me what you want on Earth. For you (the hell) awaits.”
And then on Tuesday: “Bid vir my asb” (Pray for me).
Workers on the Els’ family farm just outside Kimberley are reeling in shock after learning of the incident. They were apparently told of the suicide by colleagues who work at Adre’s farm, Sandplaas, near Schmidtsdrift, at around 2pm on Wednesday afternoon.
This is a developing story.
