Eight dead after bakkie overturns near Kuruman

The mayor of Joe Morolong Local Municipality and council extended condolences to the families of eight people who were killed in a road accident in Gakhoe-Dithakong near Kuruman.

THE MAYOR of Joe Morolong Local Municipality, Dineo Leutlwetse-Tshabalala, and council extended condolences to the families of eight people who were killed in a road accident in Gakhoe-Dithakong (Dithakong village) near Kuruman on Saturday.

According to Kuruman Emergency Medical Rescue Services, the incident happened on Saturday evening at around 7pm when a Toyota bakkie overturned several times on the road between Pietersham and Dithakong.

Kuruman Emergency Medical Rescue Services, along with AND310 Private Ambulance Services, responded to the scene to provide emergency assistance.

“Upon arrival, emergency personnel found the vehicle lying on its side in the middle of the road with debris scattered all over the scene of the accident.

“Paramedics initiated advanced life support interventions and stabilised passengers and occupants of the vehicle, who were seriously and critically injured, before transporting them to a nearby hospital for medical care.”

Kuruman Emergency Medical Rescue Services indicated that seven people succumbed to their injuries prior to their arrival.

“Another critically injured patient succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.

“A total of eight passengers were admitted to various hospitals for medical treatment.”
