The chief director of projects and infrastructure at the Department of Education Gideon Oliphant is under police guard at a local hospital, after he was shot at through his car window.

It is believed that he was shot three times when he stopped at a four way intersection in Galeshewe on Friday night.

Spokesperson for the Department of Education Lehuma Ntuane confirmed that Oliphant was shot during a drive-by shooting incident.

“We are glad that he survived the incident and he is receiving all the medical care needed for his speedy recovery.

“We are equally concerned about the motive for his attack on his life. This matter is now under police investigation and we cannot make any further comment.”

Captain Bashoabile Kale stated that the Kagisho police were investigating a case of attempted murder following a shooting that took place on Friday October 26 at about 8.30pm.

“It is alleged that a 35-year-old man was visiting his girlfriend when he was shot three times. He sustained serious injuries and rushed to the hospital. He is under police guard at one of the local hospitals.”

He indicated that the motive for the attack was currently unknown.

“No suspects have been arrested yet and the police are pleading with the public to provide information around the incident. The case had been transferred to Trio Crimes for further investigation.”
