THE NORTHERN Cape Department of Education has confirmed that its fuel and maintenance card has been reopened by First National Bank (FNB) after its fuel cards were blocked last week.

A notice was issued to all district offices that all departmental vehicles would be grounded a day before the bank issued notice to suspend services on January 23 because of non-payment. The decision was taken to prevent vehicles from being turned away at filling stations when the petrol tanks had run dry.

Provincial Department of Education spokesperson Geoffrey van der Merwe stated that the matter was resolved last week.

“Payment was issued for the use of the fuel cards as the account was in arrears,” he explained.
