MORE than 13 000 Grade 12 pupils in the Northern Cape will from Monday, February 27 be able to access online learning at home at no cost after the provincial Department of Education gives each pupil a tablet when it launches its e-learning initiative.

Northern Cape Department of Education spokesperson Geoffrey van der Merwe said the tablets will be preloaded with the Edukite learning application and will have six curriculum subjects on it.

“The Edukite learning application will have six subjects – Mathematics, Physical Science, Life Science, Geography, Business Studies and Accounting. Learners will now be able to better understand abstract content knowledge through 3D animation. The animations will make the lessons come alive. This way of learning will not only be fun and simple, but learners can apply what they have learnt through the interactive simulations. This will also assist learners to prepare for their examinations by tracking their progress and performance,” said Van der Merwe.

He said pupils will be able to access the e-learning material free of charge.

“The Edukite learning application does not require any data to operate. This will make it easy for Grade 12 learners through the length and breadth of the Province to access online learning material with just a touch of a button.

“The department envisages that this initiative will contribute to the improvement of the learner outcomes for Grade 12 learners in the Province,” Van der Merwe concluded.
