AS SCHOOLS across the country will be closing on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, Early Childhood Development Centres (ECD), which fall under the portfolio of the Department of Social Development, will remain open.

The Northern Cape Department of Social Development said parents can be assured that ECD centres will operate safely under the Alert Level 4 lockdown regulations.

Spokesperson for the Department of Social Development, Gamiem Abrahams said parents with children in ECD centres in the Province can still send their children to the crèches while schools are closed.

“The economy is still operating and there are parents who have to report to work while others do not have the option of working from home. Although schools are closed, the same regulation was not made on ECD centres. We have already provided all our ECD -centres with the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) and will ensure they observe all Covid-19 protocols under lockdown Level 4, said Abrahams.
